Sarah Gurney's work is vulnerable and personal. She speaks self-doubt that she feels but are also universal, drawing us in and making us feel less alone in the world. I think my favorite poem here is "Self-Portrait" whose implications are so much more powerful than the words alone are. I feel that always in her work. This is a collection that should be read and then reread more slowly so the words can work their way through you.
